Perfect Brown Rice in the Instant Pot
Brown Rice and I have a strange relationship. I am not a huge fan, this said I love to make stir-fried rice dishes with Brown Rice. I feel that the chewy nutty texture works really well when cold offering the perfect foil for stir fried dishes such as a fried rice, or a South Indian style rice dish. Do I really think that it is a substitute for snowy comforting steamed Basmati Rice – well not really. Do I feel virtuous when I sub brown rice instead of my usual white Basmati Rice absolutely! Perfectly done brown rice can take more than an hour to make on the stove top. Making it an absolutely perfect candidate for the instant pot. So yes, here is my take on Cooking Perfect Brown Rice in the Instant Pot.
A Little more About the Perfect Brown Rice in Instant Pot
Well, for starters not all brown rice is made the same. is so much more flavorful than other varieties. While it is not quite as long and fluffy its white counterpart, it still is nice and slender compared to some of the other grains out there. And I have a simple tip to ensure that it cooks even quicker than usual in the instant pot – soaking. I know that is probably my solution to almost anything but if soaked for a couple hours, brown rice cooks in the Instant Pot in 7 minutes of high pressure. About 20 minutes total. Some recipes using brown rice include this perfect rice and peas.
That is really quite amazing for perfectly done soft and fluffy brown rice. In short, you can almost have it at the same time as any other meal. With the quarantine pantry, I have been working down all my grains. I have to confess, I probably stock up way more grains than I need. So, note to self less hoarding.
Now while my preferred Brown Rice is Basmati, this can be done with any brown rice of your choice. An essential dish that this can be meshed with is my perfect pot of black beans.
